Veteran
Authored an electrical safety standard for a refinery.
Led owner-side reviews of controls modernization projects.
Supported brownfield capital execution inside operating facilities.
Managed process safety obligations under OSHA PSM.
Commissioned systems during active plant construction and startup.

The call usually comes at the same moment.
Not when things are going well. When something important has stopped moving and the organization needs someone to take ownership of it.
Projects have stalled
Critical projects lose momentum when ownership becomes fragmented. I establish accountability and drive execution.
An audit is coming
The PSM program needs to be defensible before the auditor arrives, and nobody has owned it for a while.
The backlog has outgrown the team
Open PHA recommendations and MOCs accumulate past their due dates faster than staff can close them.
Institutional knowledge is leaving
The facility engineer who knew why things were built that way is retiring, and none of it is written down.
A migration is about to start
A controls replacement is scoped by the vendor selling it, and the owner has nobody checking the work.
Startup is not going to plan
Commissioning has surfaced problems that should have been caught in design, and the schedule is already committed.

Examples of the work.
- Challenge
- Years of unresolved recommendations were creating growing operational and compliance exposure.
- Action
- Performed detailed review, prioritization, standards alignment, and execution planning.
- Outcome
- Delivered a management-ready remediation roadmap and materially reduced active backlog exposure.
- Challenge
- A control system replacement was being scoped without independent owner-side technical review.
- Action
- Assessed migration scope, vendor assumptions, and the commissioning and startup plan.
- Outcome
- Identified scope gaps and commissioning risk ahead of procurement, reducing change-order exposure.
- Challenge
- An organization carried process safety obligations without dedicated engineering capacity to meet them.
- Action
- Provided embedded engineering support for reviews, documentation, and program maintenance.
- Outcome
- Compliance work advanced on schedule while internal staff remained focused on operations.
Defined scope. Defined price.
Engagements are fixed-fee and scoped after an initial discussion. You work with the engineer who does the work, not a sales team.

Timothy Porritt
My career has been spent inside operating industrial facilities where downtime is expensive, schedules are unforgiving, and engineering decisions carry real consequence. I have worked across refinery operations, process safety, controls modernization, commissioning and capital execution — typically in environments where the work could not simply be paused while problems were solved.
That shaped how I practice. I work as an owner's engineer, which means my obligation runs to the facility and the people operating it — not to the vendor selling the equipment or the contractor bidding the job. I have authored a refinery's electrical safety standard, commissioned units inside live capital builds, and taken responsibility for projects that had lost their owner. Before all of it, I built automation and fire and life-safety systems for Siemens in Interior Alaska.
I am also the founder of PORRITT INC., an advanced energy and infrastructure company working across industrial systems, energy infrastructure finance, and next-generation energy technologies — porrittinc.com.

The engineer you call when the problem needs an owner.
Request a discussion. You will reach me directly, not a sales team. If I am not the right fit for the assignment, I will say so and point you to someone who is.
